Zach Herchen has been playing the saxophone for 13 years and holds a B.M. in both Saxophone Performance and Recording Arts and Sciences from the Peabody Conservatory. He has performed with Peabodys wind ensemble, jazz band, orchestras, opera department, and Conservatory Avant-Garde Ensemble (CAGE), The Baltimore Afro-Beat Society, local DJs, and rock bands. A strong proponent of new music, he has premiered 14 pieces while at Peabody. In 2006, he co-founded No Signal, a chamber music group that focuses on contemporary works, multiple genres, improvisation, comedy, theater, and audience interaction. Mr. Herchen has performed at Disney World, the High Zero Festival of Experimental Improvised Music, Lincoln Center, Heinz Hall, Carnegie Hall, and Symphony Hall. He has also performed outreach activities with the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Arlington National Cemetery, American Cancer Society, and Peabodys Junior Bach and Creative Access programs. Mr. Herchen has studied with Tim McAllister, Gary Louie, and Gary Thomas. Currently he is pursuing a M.M. in Saxophone Performance at the Peabody Conservatory. He recently performed with a jazz trio at a polo match, saw Ravi Shankar perform, and read about the pilgrims.
